Laundry, Tomatoes, MOPS, & Open Gym

A little bit of everything!

I had to buy some more Washing Soda and Borax last week to make another big batch of our homemade laundry detergent and figured I should do a follow up just in case anyone was curious... this was the 1st time I had to buy this stuff since October!! So it looks like it will cost about $10.00 every 4 months for laundry supplies! Cha-ching! That is a huge savings compared to what we were spending for the HE Tide and Snuggle dryer sheets and fabric softener. Other than when my family was here over Christmas, I have not used either the dryer sheets or fabric softener and our clothes are perfectly clean and soft =) (I still have some Tide and Snuggle that I don't want to throw away so I'll use it when we do laundry for company until it is gone.) I do not see any reason why we would ever go back.... it's super easy, saves money, and is supposedly healthier... what's not to love?!

Next up... tomatoes! So, I do not have a green thumb at all. I love flowers and plants in the house but I've never kept anything alive for very long. And now with cats that eat the plants and a toddler who would dig in the dirt, you will not find a live plant in my house for a while. BUT, I have always loved gardens! Both of my grandmas had gardens and I always loved eating fresh vegetables straight out of the garden!(A part of me wishes I could live on a farm in the country and have a biggg garden... I don't know why, I don't really like to get dirty or work outside, haha) Anyways, I did some research on Container Gardening and decided to give it a try this year! Here is my one and only tomato plant....

I bought the plant like that and transplanted it into the pot. I am also going to try cucumbers, but I am starting those from seeds so they aren't quite ready to be planted yet. I am just hoping and praying for 1 little tomato!! haha I will be so excited if I even get 1! I am completely ready for it to be a total fail though, lol.

This morning we had a MOPS play date at Alamo Gymnastics... Open Gym! Speaking of MOPS... next year I am going to be joining the steering team as the MOPPETS Coordinator! The steering team is made up of all the positions needed to run MOPS (Lead Coordinator, Assis. Coordinator, Outings, Crafts, Prayer and Care, Treasurer, Hospitality, ect.) The MOPPETS Coordinator is in charge of the curriculum, craft supplies, snacks, sign-in sheets, and name tags for all the kiddos! I am very excited to get even more involved with MOPS! But back to Open Gym... Wyatt had a blast! I am so happy to have learned about this place. They have Open Gym every Monday and Wednesday from 10:30-11:30 for 5 bucks!

The kids loved this big foam pit!

Trampoline..

Then, we sat outside with some friends and had a snack =)

I'll be back on Sunday! Hope everyone is having a good week!

Rodeo Pics

We went to the rodeo grounds one morning last week just to check out the animals and let Wyatt play at the petting zoo =)

The Mr. snapped a few pictures of me and Wyatt when we first went into the petting zoo. I really wish I would have grabbed the camera from him though, because once Wyatt got warmed up he was on the run! It was actually a really large petting zoo with animals everywhere! He was running around flailing his arms, pulling tails, and touching anything he could get his hands on, lol... it was adorable. He loved it. ..

Lent

A little different of a post than the usual Wyatt updates... but, I've been thinking a lot about Lent lately since we are now in the Lenten season of the church year. Lent began this past Wednesday and it includes the 40 days preceding Easter. It signifies the 40 days that Jesus fasted and prayed in the wilderness (and was tempted by the devil).  Matthew 4:1-11 Traditionally in the church, people would fast from meat. Nowadays, to observe Lent, people "fast" from just about anything! Soda, sugar, candy, TV, internet, certain types of music, certain activities, etc. I personally have always enjoyed this time in the church year. Every year, I try to "give something up" but I don't think I've ever actually followed through with the entire 40 days, nor have I allowed the "fast" to fulfill its purpose of drawing closer to God.

I think I have some extra motivation this year having just completed Beth Moore's powerful and convicting bible study, "James: Mercy Triumphs." This study has inspired me to take on the most challenging bible memorization task I have ever done. So while in the midst of that and with Lent just beginning, this year I decided to give up Facebook. I know, I know.... it sounds kind of silly. But if I'm being honest, I spent way to much time of Facebook throughout the day. And giving up Facebook really kind of resembles the "internet" as a whole. It had just become a "habit" to check my FB rather than something I needed to do. So on Wednesday I disabled my Facebook account and just 4 days into it I have spent way less time online.. imagine that, lol. So that is my "fast." I am trying to spend more time in the Bible and particularly working on memorization (something I just started this year after not doing it for much too long now!)

I see Lent as a time to set aside distraction, just one of many that we have in our lives, to focus on all that God has done for us. It's not so much a religious ritual as it is just preparing our hearts to once again be in awe of what Jesus accomplished for us on the cross. Fasting from something of this world to remind of us that we are sinful, flawed, and imperfect. While we know our sins are forgiven and we will spend eternity in heaven, we constantly have to humble ourselves and turn back to Him. I'm reminded of the hymn (Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing) that says, "Prone to wander, Lord I feel it. Prone to leave the God I love." .... We do wander, we go astray, we doubt, and we forget to Whom we belong. Lent is a time to "sacrifice" so we can be reminded of the ultimate sacrifice. When we take time to reflect on how much we really do need a Savior, we can truly celebrate the victory in that glorious Easter morning!

So those are just my current thoughts on Lent and what I am doing this year =) I'm going to post something Lent related every Sunday until Easter.

1st Haircut

Wyatt got his 1st haircut 2 weekends ago! I am totally late posting this.... he is currently cutting his first set of molars, all 4!! tops and bottoms on both sides. Two of them have cut through and the other two are working their way up, but his gums have huge knots. =( Needless to say, it has been a rough past week or so =/ Anyways.... here he is waiting at Cool Cuts, taking things off the shelf.

He did OK at the very beginning, just very unsure..

And then he quickly decided this was not his idea of fun! (not even with the TV right in front of him!)

Paci helped a little bit, but not much

But he looks so handsome!!!

We went back to the front to pay and he went right back to taking things off the shelf like nothing even happened, lol..

Playing around at home with his new do!

I waited pretty long to get hit cut because I knew it would make him look more like a big boy, but we really love how it turned out =) It fits him perfectly, such a handsome little man <3

Football and Dump Trucks

I have totally been slacking on keeping up with pictures and blogging! I just unloaded a bunch of pictures from the last few weeks onto the computer. For now, here is a video of Wyatt playing. He's all boy... throwing footballs and pushing dump trucks =)

The Croc he has on was his cousin's (JJ) in Virginia... it is still way to big but he pulled it out of his shoe bin and wanted me to put it on him, lol.
