In the Kitchen

It's not unusual for me to grab my video camera right in the middle of cooking dinner and video Wyatt for about 5 minutes =) I am fascinated by watching his mind process the world around him and seeing how his play is developing... guess it's my love for psychology coming out in me, go ahead, call me a dork. =/ (And there's just nothing like the sound of baby babble to make you smile)!

Last Week of Summer

As many of you know I finally started college this past Monday and it is a blast. I'm really enjoying it and very excited about the future. This course is definitely going to be challenging but not impossible. Please keep me, the Mrs. and W in your prayers.

Any how, here is a snap shot of my last week of summer. Enjoy.

Infant Swim Resource

I mentioned in Wyatt's 8 month update that he is taking "swim lessons." It's not actually swim lessons, but drowning prevention lessons. It's a program called Infant Swimming Resource where 6-12 month olds work one-on-one with a certified instructor to learn the skills necessary to prevent drowning in case baby accidentally falls into a pool (or any body of water)! At this age, the babies aren't necessarily taught how to swim, but how to roll over to his/her back and float until help comes (1-6 year olds learn the rollback to float in addition to swimming to the wall). This video is taken from the ISR website...

And here's a video of another 8 month old...

The program takes 4-6 weeks and because it is one-on-one everything is done at the baby's own pace depending on their speed of learning the skills and how they are handling it. Wyatt's schedule pretty much revolves around his lesson right now because they can't eat or drink 2 hours before the lesson, and the timing also shifted his naps a little bit. He is already in week 3 though and watching his progress (and the other babies/toddlers) has been amazing! He floats on his own and goes under water but he is in the middle of learning how to roll onto his back. Once the baby has all the skills learned, they have you bring them fully clothed since most babies are fully clothed when they drown and it feels different versus just having a diaper on.

We are allowed to video-tape him at the end... they don't allow video-taping the methods/techniques they use to teach the skills. So hopefully we'll have a video up of Wyatt in a couple weeks!

Happy 8 Months!

We had a busy day today so I didn't get his 8 month picture in his rocking chair, but I'll get it up tomorrow!

Wyatt....
  • Weighs 18.5 lbs. (not totally accurate, just an at-home weigh) I'm not sure where that puts him percentage wise, but his cheeks and legs sure have gotten chubby the last 2 weeks!
  • Wears size 3 diapers
  • Wears 9 month clothes. Like I wrote about last month, he has finally fallen right into his "actual" size clothes instead being a couple months ahead.
  • I like adding his schedule in these monthly updates mostly for my sake... I like being able to look back and compare his schedule, so feel free to skip this part. Right now he is on a 6:00 am - 6:00 pm rotation because of his swim instruction at 10:10 am (I'll have a post on that soon!) So he's up at 6 for solid food breakfast and play, then bottle and morning nap at about 7:45, for sure down by 8:00. He naps until 9:15 when I get him ready and we go to swim. Another bottle at about 11:30 and play, play, play. Another bottle and afternoon nap at about 2:00 (1-2 hour nap). Then play until solid feeding dinner at 5, bath at 5:30 and bed at 6:00. He still has 1 night feeding at about 2:00 am. (When he's done with his swim class, I plan on getting him back to 7:00 am - 7:00 pm schedule so his morning nap doesn't have to be so early.)
  • Has 5 teeth now! 2 on bottom and 3 on top.
  • Has the "pincer grasp" down... he still eats mostly pureed food, but I also give him small pieces of certain fruits and steamed veggies and Puffs to practice self-feeding.

  • Added peaches, nectarines, and zucchini to his menu since last month. He <3s zucchini!
  • Throws his pacifiers out of his crib when he wakes up and we are constantly searching for them.
  • Pulls up on furniture, "cruises" along furniture (see last post), and often gets really brave and reaches from chair to chair... lots of falls and bumps, but rarely a fuss from him, he just keeps on.
  • Recognizes his name and also recognizes "Time to EAT!" I tell him to come to his chair to eat and he drops what he's doing and crawls to his highchair =)
  • One of his favorite things to do is climb all over the couch cushions when we take them off and set them out on the floor. He loves rough and tumble play, such a boy!
  • Is fascinated by the vacuum!

  • Is also extremely fascinated with my blow dryer. He sits at my feet and stares the entire time I dry my hair

  • Still LOVES bath time!
  • Has been babbling "mamama" "dadada" and "bababa" a lot in the past week. He's not referencing anything specifically, just practicing his sounds!
His new thing right now is that he will put a toy, or a washcloth, or a spatula, (whatever he is playing with) in his mouth and he'll crawl around with the object sticking out of his mouth!! It cracks us up!
Here's an example....

Here's a funny video of the very first time I put a shoe on his foot. He wants to stand up on the entertainment center but he can't get over the fact that something is on his foot, hehe.

To summarize Wyatt up at 8 months old = Whirlwind! He sleeps solid 12 hour nights and 2 naps a day, but when he is awake... he. is. awake. (if you know what I mean) =) He plays hard and he just goes and goes and goes like an energizer bunny. This is working out fine as a baby, but if he keeps up his pace as a toddler ... well, I don't even want to think about that yet! ;)

Wyatt's World

Wyatt is a busy, busy boy these days! His 8 month update will be up on Friday but in the meantime, here's a few videos to give you a glimpse into his world =)

Cruising along the couch at 7.5 months old.

This one next is a little slow going, but it was so cute how he was determined to carry the couch cushion with him and try to get it up on the couch. I love just watching his little mind work..

His hair is so soft, kinda fine, and just has this puffiness to it... every time he wakes up from a nap he's got a crazy hair-do, but this was especially wacky =)

Our Weekend in Dallas

A few weekends ago we went up to the Dallas/Forth Worth area. We visited Mr.'s sister and her husband and also went to Mr.'s cousin's wedding! I just wanted to document our trip and share some pictures!
Wyatt's Aunt Ashly and Uncle Jason have 2 furbabies, Patch and Link. Link isn't to interested in kids but Patch is a baby's best friend =) Wyatt and Patch were 2 peas in the pod the entire weekend!
They played with the tennis ball together....

They played with Wyatt's toys together....

Wyatt waited for Patch when he had to go potty...

They followed each other around...

Even took a bath together....!

Patch accidentally scratched Wyatt's hand...

So Aunt Ashly got him a Captain America bandaid!
They were just too cute together!

Afternoon snack...

And here's pictures from Amy and Nick's beautiful wedding (Amy is Mr.'s cousin)...

Their cake was huge! Of course, it was a big wedding =) It was so simple, but so pretty..

Nick's cake... How awesome is that?! A Texas Rangers cooler filled with beer, lol

Here we are with Amy, she was just gorgeous!

 Bride and Groom

Chocolate Fountain, soooo yummy!

We also spent a day at Aunt Debbie's hanging out by the pool...

We had a blast and can't wait for our next trip up to Dallas! We are so thankful to be able to just spend time with family. After 8 years of the military (well, 25 years for me ;) ) we know not to take time spent with family for granted.

Mr.'s Projects

Howdy Folks,

It's been awhile since I have posted anything here on the blog. Those of you who know me will also know that's because I have become obsessed with geocaching. Yes, geocaching. All I can think about is finding them, building them, and hiding them. If you have no idea what I'm talking about then go to geocaching.com and check it out, for video search "geocaching" on youtube.com

Anyhow, I have also recently built some really cool bookshelves (requested by the Mrs.) for Wyatt's room. Mrs. found the idea for these shelves on one of the blogs she came across here. Unfortunately I didn't document my build of these shelves as well as the other blog but you can still see the finished product. Here they are....

Oh you want to read a book?

Ok, pick one out.

Good job, is that the one you want to read?

Nope! I want to EAT IT!!!!

I used drywall anchors rated for 145lbs, so they can withstand this little monkey climbing on them. Not that we are going to encourage climbing up the walls but let's be frank with our selves... could you resist these if you were 7 months old? Besides he is my son...
